SME Contractors is a licensed & insured family operated company. With over 20 years of experience, we pride ourselves with providing the highest quality of work and customer service. From large scale commercial projects to smaller residential ones, our attention to detail remains the same. Through the relationships we have developed and the jobs we have completed, we are proud to see the impact we have made in our local communities.
Charity Work
We hosted our second annual Charity Event on September 13th of 2024. Thanks to local businesses, families, and collegues we were able to raise $20,000.00 for the Delaware Chapter of the TEARS Foundation. This foundation seeks to compassionately lift a financial burden from families who have lost a child by providing funds to assist with the cost of burial or cremation services. They also offer parents comprehensive bereavement care in the form of grief support groups and peer companions. The TEARS Foundation is very dear to our heart, as we lost our daughter, Sofia back in 2012. Now that we are in the postition to give back, we knew that we wanted to honor her memory by giving back to other families who have lost a child.

SME Contractors is an OSHA certified, licensed, and insured company that provides concrete, demolition, and masonry services in the State of Delaware. It is our goal to provide our team members with a safe worksite and to constantly keep our employees up to date with OSHA guidelines and expectations.

Owner/CEO of Operations
Luis Echevarria Sr
Luis Echevarria, Sr is Co-Owner of SME Contractors LLC and a true master of his craft. With unmatched expertise as a mason and a skill set that spans far beyond the trade, he brings decades of experience, precision, and artistry to every project.
Even as the company has grown and taken on larger crews, he’s never stepped away from the work itself. You’ll still find him on-site, hands in the craft, turning raw materials into something exceptional. For him, construction isn’t just a job—it’s an art form, and every project is a reflection of his passion and talent.
In his down time, what he enjoys most is quality time with his family and traveling back to his childhood hometown of Rincón, Puerto Rico—a place that keeps him grounded and inspired.
Owner/President
Lila Echevarria
Lila Echevarria is the President and Co-Owner of SME Contractors LLC, where she oversees all aspects of the business operations. With over 20 years of experience, she plays a key role in shaping the company’s direction, ensuring that every project and process aligns with its long-term vision.
Highly motivated, Lila thrives on challenges and takes pride in delivering exceptional work with integrity. She’s passionate about building strong, lasting relationships and creating a positive impact through both leadership and action.
Lila believes that success isn’t just about the outcome—it’s about how you get there. She takes pride in creating positive, collaborative experiences for clients and teams alike.
When she's not working, Lila enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and making meaningful memories along the way.
Vice President of Operations
Luis Echevarria Jr
Luis graduated from the University of Delaware in 2021 with his Bachelors of Science degree in Sociology. Soon after graduation, he accepted a full time position as a Project Manager with SME contractors. He has over 5 years of experience as a Laborer and 2 years as a Project Manager, overseeing million dollar projects. In his spare time, Luis Jr likes spending time with his dogs, Harley & Rocco, and working out.
Operations Administrator
Brianna Echevarria
Brianna graduated from the University of Delaware in 2021 with her Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing. She has over 4 years of experience in Sales and two years as an account manager. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, and playing with her dogs, Harley and Rocco.
Project Coordinator
Mercedes Echevarria
Mercedes graduated from Neuman University in 2022 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Soon after graduation she accepted a full time position with SME Contractors as an Administrative specialist. In her spare time, Mercedes likes to sing and spend time with family and friends.
Director of Construction Management
Michael Poll
Mike graduated from The Catholic University of America in 2017 and quickly found his passion in the skilled trades. He built a strong foundation in the field, earning his journeyman credentials in HVAC, plumbing, and pipefitting. With hands-on experience and a drive to grow, Mike transitioned into construction management, where he’s been able to combine technical expertise with leadership and project coordination—ultimately leading him to his role at SME Contractors.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time on the golf course, hunting, and making the most of time with friends and family.
